ADGI Chapter Bandung initiated a meaningful and casual forum at Teras Social House on Friday, April 25. The event featured Sweta Kartika and Dian Effendy from Wanara Studio, along with intellectual property expert Kang Ramdhy.
The discussion focused on how to build professional ethics and legal protection within the creative process of Graphic Design—exploring the stages, challenges, and key decisions involved, as well as the importance of understanding, preserving, and protecting intellectual property (IP) from the very beginning.
This informal talk was more than just sharing stories—it served as a reminder that in the creative world, IP is a valuable foundation. Behind every piece of work lies a right, a value, and a future worth protecting. Here are some key points from the evening’s discussion:
- Managing legal documents and requirements is one of the steps that reflect our professionalism as creative practitioners.
- Professional relationships are not limited to employer and employee but also extend to interactions between studios and clients/projects.
- Legal matters form a core foundation of how studios operate, including: licensing requirements for specific projects, tender and qualification processes, financial and tax records, etc.
- Legal protection can also be used as a foundation to monetize intellectual property, through models such as co-ownership/franchise, patents, research, and more.
Thank you, ADGI Bandung, for initiating such a valuable forum. May more spaces like this continue to grow in the future. 🙌
